"I remembered laying this outfit on my bed the night before fifth grade school photos were being taken. You can't tell but in addition to the matching denim top, scrunchie headband and earrings, I was rocking a denim skirt with a zip-off ruffle. This shot was taken before my mom noticed I was gaining weight despite eating only lettuce and doing Jane Fonda in the den -- she took me to the doctor, who diagnosed my hypothyroidism. I was soon put on medication and shot up about a foot while remaining the same weight. I'm sure it's no coincidence that I make my living today as a women's health writer and body image blogger." --Leslie
"I think I was 12. This is a school photo, obvi. I love that I left my retainer in for a portrait. Like, a portrait that your mom pays for and orders extra copies to trade with your friends and relatives. I also like that I'm matching my shirt to my scrunchie. There's a lot wrong with this photo. Good thing you can't see my Keds. My socks probably matched, too." --Erin
