"This one was taken when I was in 7th grade. As a kid I spent years begging my mother to shave my head (she refused). Our compromise was this sort of fuzzy pageboy look that was accomplished with a flowbie. The icing on the cake were those two butterfly clips just sort of holding back the absurdity as best as their little plastic jaws could manage. Tack on my extreme love of The Far Side, as explained by my shirt, and you've got one hell of an ugly duckling... quack." --Mary
"The picture was taken for my high school yearbook I was in 11th grade in the year 1990.. I was rocking a Z Cavaricci White suite, black Shirt and a white skinny tie! I have no idea what I was thinking, but loved the store Chess King and my Nike Sneakers. My hair was always a dry and frizzy mess, and the mustache that barely grew in was just as bad."
"I remember being really adamant about wearing my Little Mermaid sweatshirt. I was going to be cool and defy the social norm that was formal dress for picture day. If only I'd been defying norms on the bangs front, too. This photo was taken between several failed perms, in my 4th grade year, meaning my hair was in for even more trauma and I was in love with a 5th grader named Brendan Radke. In LOVE, okay? (I found him on facebook a bit ago. My boyfriend is way cuter. Sorry, Brendan -- you missed your shot!)" -Emily
