Joy: Half-Crimped Hair

"Here I'm working a purple wool sweater covered in hearts atop a decidedly 'Little House on the Prairie' version of a Peter Pan collar, probably with pleated corduroy pants. That year pink and purple were my favorite colors (obviously). I had half-crimped hair, which was achieved by making my mom to braid row upon row of tiny braids the night before (was it worth it? I think not), and the requisite nose zit that rears its ugly head just in time for picture day. I got the great divide between my two front teeth (a gap that would continue to grow until I got braces) by sucking both my first and middle finger at the same time." --Joy
